Patients and visitors
What to expect, and what to bring
Most of what makes a visit go smoothly is decided before you arrive. This page is the short version.
Being seen
For an ordinary problem, come to the outpatient desk and take a ticket. You will be triaged and then called by number. Mornings are busiest, and the afternoon is usually quicker.
Clinic days
| Mon | General outpatient, dialysis | 8am to 4pm |
| Tue | Antenatal, general outpatient | 8am to 4pm |
| Wed | Immunisation, cervical screening | 9am to 3pm |
| Thu | Antenatal, dental | 8am to 3pm |
| Fri | Ear nose and throat, dialysis | 9am to 3pm |
| Sat | General outpatient | 8am to 12pm |
| Any | Emergency, maternity | All hours |
Bring with you
- 1Your hospital card, if you have one, so we find your record.
- 2Every medicine you take, in its packet. All of them.
- 3The card for any child you are bringing.
- 4Somebody who can wait with you, if you are unwell.
If you would like us to telephone you back and arrange a day, leave your number and the front desk will call. If you already use the patient portal you can book a clinic visit yourself, see your medicines, and check what you owe.
Fees and cover
What it costs, before you agree to it
Our fees are published at the cashier and the clinician will tell you the cost of a test before ordering it. If something is going to be expensive, you will hear it from a person rather than at the end.
- Emergency treatment is never withheld for want of payment.
- Antenatal care and childhood immunisation are free.
- If you genuinely cannot pay, ask for the waiver form at the cashier. It is a normal thing to ask for.
- We take cash and mobile money. A receipt is printed for every payment.
What we keep, and who can see it
One record
Front desk, clinic, ward, laboratory and pharmacy all write to the same chart, so your history follows you.
Who reads it
Only the people treating you. Every opening of a record is logged with a name against it.
Your own copy
Ask at records for a copy of your notes. You are entitled to it and it does not cost anything.
Chest pain, bad bleeding, trouble breathing, a fit, a bad injury, or a child who is limp or will not feed. Come now, or send somebody.
