Sinkor Medical Center

Departments

Twelve services, one record

Each service runs its own clinic days. Whichever door you come through, everyone writes to the same chart.

General practice

Mon to Sat, 8am to 4pm

Everyday illness and injury, chronic care, and the clinic most people meet first.

Paediatrics

Mon to Sat, 8am to 4pm

Children weighed and measured against growth standards, with danger signs checked at every visit.

Obstetrics and gynaecology

Antenatal Tue and Thu

Antenatal care, delivery, family planning and cervical screening.

Surgery

Theatre lists Mon and Wed

Planned and emergency operations, with the surgical safety checklist read aloud on every case.

Emergency medicine

All hours

Triage on arrival, day or night. The sickest person is seen first, not the first to arrive.

Laboratory

Mon to Sat, 7am to 4pm

Blood, malaria, tuberculosis and culture work, with results returned to the clinician who asked.

Radiology and imaging

Mon to Fri, 8am to 4pm

X-ray and ultrasound, reported and attached to your record rather than handed over as a film.

Nephrology and dialysis

Mon and Fri

Scheduled haemodialysis with the same team each week.

Dentistry

Thu, 9am to 3pm

Examination, fillings and extractions in our dental room. Telephone first, the list fills early.

Ear, nose and throat

Fri, 9am to 3pm

Hearing tests, foreign bodies and the common ENT complaints.

Community health

Outreach, by arrangement

Immunisation in the community, and following up the people who miss a visit.

Transfusion medicine

Mon to Sat

Our blood bank: donors, screening, and safe issue to the ward.

Referrals

You do not need a letter to be seen

Walk in to the outpatient desk and take a ticket. A clinician will decide whether you need a specialist clinic, and book it for you before you leave.

  • Dialysis and theatre lists are the exceptions, and both are arranged by a clinician here.
  • If we cannot do something, we say so and refer you on rather than keeping you waiting.
  • A referral we send is followed up. If the other hospital declines it, somebody here is told.
Nothing sits on a shelf A laboratory result goes back to the clinician who asked for it, not into a tray.
Do not wait for a clinic day

Chest pain, bad bleeding, trouble breathing, a fit, a bad injury, or a child who is limp or will not feed. Come now, or send somebody.
